Working on Self-Awareness
By Registered Nutritionist and Calgary Eating Disorder Dietitian Richelle Tabelon on our team who specializes in nutrition support for problematic emotional eating and eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and BED (binge eating disorder).
“Feed the Now” is a quote and mantra from a client who I saw for eating disorder recovery.
“Feed the Now” beautifully encapsulates not only the struggle with food but also the emotional challenges that many people face.
How do I live in the moment and meet my physical and emotional needs without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future?
For example, listening to your body’s cues and asking yourself right now am I hungry? It doesn’t matter what you already ate at breakfast (past) or that you’re planning on going out for supper (future).
The same strategy works for emotional needs. Maybe you are not physically hungry but seeking something so ask yourself what do I need right now? Examples could be talking to a friend, taking a bath, listening to music, etc.
As a dietitian supporting people with eating disorder recovery, I love to hear how much better people feel when they start trusting their bodies.
