How to Sharpen Your Knife Like a Pro
Simple Skills for Home Cooks
Often, when purchasing items for our kitchens, we focus on fun, new appliances (hello, Instantpot!). However, one of the easiest ways to improve our cooking skills and experience in the kitchen is to focus on having a few, quality knives, and keeping them sharp. It’s faster and easier to chop, dice and slice with a sharp blade, and it’s safer to use sharp blades.
Here is a video that shows some knife sharpening basics that you can do at home. If watching this video makes you nervous to do this on your own, or if you are thinking that you want to get some hands-on teaching, there are options for you! Across the street from our office is a location of Knifewear. They sell amazing knives, as well as offer classes on knife sharpening, and how to cut like a chef. Not only are they in our local neighborhood, they can be found at the Calgary Farmers’ Market on Blackfoot Trail, and have locations in Ottawa, Vancouver and Edmonton. Having great knives that work at their best is a great help in any kitchen.
Knifewear in Inglewood can be found at 1316 9th Ave SE, toll free at 888-669-6168, or online at www.knifewear.com
