If you’ve ever felt like nutrition advice is either too complicated or too restrictive, Gurveen is here to change that. Her approach is nutrition by addition. Instead of handing you a list of foods to avoid, Gurveen helps you figure out what you can add: more variety, more nourishment, more of what makes you feel good. She creates a judgment-free space where nothing is off limits, and nothing needs to be earned. Real change happens when it fits your actual life, so Gurveen meets clients where they are and works with the routines they already have, not the ones they think they’re supposed to have. Nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all, and getting to know each client’s schedule, tastes, and goals is genuinely her favourite part of the job. She also speaks Punjabi.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Gurveen graduated from the University of Alberta’s Dietetic Specialization program. She has worked across a range of clinical settings, including urban and rural hospital inpatient and outpatient units, rehabilitation units including brain injury, stroke and geriatrics in addition to home care and community-based care. Before joining the Health Stand team, she has also worked in private practice alongside a team of psychologists, offering one-on-one nutrition counselling. That variety of experience means Gurveen has sat across from all kinds of people, working through a range of health conditions and nutrition concerns, and she brings all of that insight into every session.
Gurveen has experience with weight concerns, gastrointestinal issues such as Crohn’s disease, colitis, and IBS, PCOS, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, mental health and more. She has a special interest in women’s health, supporting clients through PCOS, endometriosis, chronic disease management, and digestive health.
She also brings a culturally informed lens to her practice, specializing in South Asian diets and speaking Punjabi fluently. Coming from a Punjabi background herself, Gurveen knows that food is often the heart of every gathering and celebration, and she loves helping clients find flexible, realistic ways to keep those foods on the table while still working toward their health goals.
Outside of work, you’ll likely find Gurveen outdoors, on a hiking trail or a long neighbourhood walk, or on the hunt for the newest cafe or restaurant. She’s a firm believer in a great sandwich and an even bigger believer in chocolate ice cream. When she’s not exploring the city’s food scene, she’s usually in her kitchen testing out a new recipe, especially if it involves cookies or a good loaf.
