Deb brings over 25-years of experience as a Registered Dietitian. What you will love about Deb the most is her approachability and practical ideas for nutrition and healthy living. She is an astute listener and has a natural ability to simplify science-based nutrition recommendations into easy-to-implement ideas. Deb is a diabetes specialist and has experience in weight management, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cholesterol, triglycerides and celiac disease.
She says that the best part of her job is watching people achieve success in a realistic, enjoyable and non-restrictive way. Deb is an advocate for a healthy relationship with food and believes that all foods fit into healthy eating (including chocolate and wine which she ranks as top treats!).
Deb obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree, majoring in Dairy and Food Science from the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her dietetic internship at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and started her nutrition career there as a clinical dietitian on the cardiology ward. Two years later, she moved with her husband to Calgary. She worked at the Foothills Medical Centre on the cardiology units and in the outpatient lipid clinic, counselling patients on weight loss, blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Deb stayed home for 6-years to raise her son and daughter. She loved having this time to spend with her children as they grew. They are now young adults and both go to the University of Calgary. She returned to Alberta Health Services and worked part-time as an outpatient dietitian in the Diabetes, Hypertension & Cholesterol Centre. She was involved with both individual client counselling and group education classes.
Deb holds a highly skilled national certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®). She is a member of the College of Dietitians of Alberta, Dietitians of Canada, Canadian Obesity Network and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Deb is also a certified Craving Change™ expert specializing in strategies for problematic and emotional eating.
Two of Deb’s family members have Celiac Disease. As a result, she is knowledgeable about the science of the gluten-free diet and how to practically incorporate this into everyday cooking and eating. In her spare time, Deb enjoys traveling, yoga, hiking, biking and walking her Labrador retriever as well as getting together with friends and family to share good food and good wine.
