We are excited to introduce you to Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist on our team, Dawn Peacock.
After more than 20 years as a Registered Dietitian, Dawn Peacock has learned something important: people don’t need more food rules. They need compassion, clarity, and support that fits their real lives.
Dawn is passionate about helping her clients reduce food stress and build confidence in their choices. Her focus areas include ADHD nutrition, women’s health, perimenopause and menopause, family feeding and picky eating, weight concerns, and managing food restrictions like celiac disease.
She also has a keen interest in disordered eating, eating disorders, and mental health, and is passionate about helping clients develop a healthy, balanced relationship with food and their bodies.
We asked Dawn to share a few things about herself so you could get to know background, areas of speciality, favourite foods, and more! Learn even more about Dawn, her experience and interests as a dietitian in her full bio here.
What is your background as a Registered Dietitian?
I graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Nutrition and completed my dietetic internship in Calgary.
I started my career in Women’s Health, supporting clients through pregnancy, postpartum, and midlife transitions. I’m so grateful to have had that opportunity early in my career because it allowed me to grow as a dietitian and learn from an incredible multidisciplinary team.
As the program’s sole dietitian, I ran the nutrition program, offering counselling, group education, community outreach, resource development, media work, and article writing. That experience gave me a strong foundation in everything from hormones to body image and showed me early on that nutrition isn’t just about what’s on your plate. It’s about how food shapes how we feel, function, and live.
From there, I spent several years in public health with a Weight Management Program, helping clients make sustainable lifestyle changes and rebuild a positive relationship with food. That’s where I started moving away from rigid plans and “shoulds” toward a more compassionate, flexible, and non-diet approach focused on confidence, not perfection.
Later, I joined the Osteoporosis Centre, where I provided specialized counselling to help people support bone health while managing complex health conditions. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in evidence-based care and a deep understanding of how food, mental health, and hormones all connect throughout life.
A few years later, in the middle of the pandemic, I followed my entrepreneurial side and started Curated Food Co., a small business that delivered locally sourced fruits, vegetables, and artisan foods. It was such a rewarding chapter that combined my love for food, community, and supporting local farmers and small businesses. I loved discovering unique local products and bringing fresh, seasonal food right to people’s doors. That experience reminded me that eating well isn’t just about nutrients; it’s about joy, connection, and enjoying food that tastes amazing and makes you feel good.

And honestly, my personal life has shaped my work just as much as my career has. As a mom of two active boys, one with ADHD and celiac disease, I know how hard it can be to juggle food restrictions, busy schedules, and the mental load of feeding a family. Those experiences shape how I practice today with compassion, practicality, and zero judgment.

At the end of the day, my approach is simple. Nutrition isn’t about willpower or perfection. It’s about finding what works for you, building flexible habits that last, and letting go of guilt and confusion around food. When we quiet the noise and stop trying to do everything “right,” food gets a lot simpler, and life feels a little lighter too.
What is your favourite part of being a Dietitian?
Honestly, it’s seeing people go from feeling stuck, guilty, or overwhelmed about food to feeling calm and confident again.
When someone says, “Food finally feels easier,” that’s the best part of my day.
I’ve always been fascinated by the psychology of eating and why we eat the way we do. Those ah-ha moments when someone starts to see food, their body, or themselves differently are what make this work so meaningful to me.
And yes, I’m a bit of a nutrition nerd. I can happily spend hours diving into research or going down a good nutrition rabbit hole. I’m endlessly curious and love playing detective to help people figure out what’s not working, uncover what’s been getting in the way, and find simple, realistic ways to make food feel easier.
What is one myth that you want to clear up about Dietitians?
That we’re the “food police.”
I promise, that’s not me. I’m not here to hand you a list of forbidden foods or take away your favourites. If anything, I’m usually reminding you to add the fun foods back in.
Eating well doesn’t mean eating perfectly. It’s about flexibility, balance, and finding a way to eat that works for your real life. Food doesn’t need to be complicated or restrictive to make a difference, and often, the simplest approach is the best one.
What is your favourite nerdy nutritious food chosen for health?
Pumpkin seeds.
I went down a research rabbit hole one day about magnesium and realized most people don’t get enough. Pumpkin seeds are one of the best sources, and now I keep a jar in my pantry and grab a handful every day.
What is your favourite soulful food chosen for taste, enjoyment, and social fun?
My morning latte with a piece of chocolate, hands down. Everyone who knows me knows those two go together. It’s my favourite daily ritual and the perfect way to start the day.
Other close seconds? Hot wings, fresh bread (especially with melted cheese), dill pickle chips, and poutine. I’m all about enjoying my favourite foods without guilt.
What is something that people may not know about you?
I don’t actually love cooking, which surprises a lot of people. I’m all about simple, satisfying meals that check the boxes and make life easier.
I also have ADHD, so I understand how hard it can be to remember to eat, plan meals, or just deal with decision fatigue. That lived experience gives me a ton of empathy for my clients and plenty of practical tips to share.
Outside of work, I love staying active and cheering on my two boys at their hockey and baseball games. I grew up playing ringette and dancing, and I still love a bit of friendly competition, whether it’s a board game, a family baseball match, or chasing the top spot on my Peloton leaderboard.
I’m also a creative at heart. I love learning new things and tend to dive right into whatever catches my curiosity. Lately, that’s been jewelry making (and even a bit of welding) to bring my ideas to life.

Final Thoughts:
I know what it’s like to feel tired of food stress because I’ve lived it, and I’ve helped hundreds of clients move through it.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. You deserve to feel good about what you eat and confident in how you feed yourself (and your people).
My philosophy is simple: life’s too short to stress over food. All foods fit. And nutrition doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated to make a difference.
