Our Favourite Things: Roasted Chickpeas
The Good Bean: Roasted Chickpea Snacks
I am a huge fan of roasted chickpeas not only for their crunchy, savoury flavour but also since they are loaded with nutrition.
While you can make them at home, consider trying this ready made option: The Good Bean: Roasted Chickpeas. I am not often impressed by packaged convenience foods but this product contains very simple ingredients (chickpeas, oil, salt and vitamin E) and they are loaded with good nutrition. Each 28g serving (just under a quarter of a cup) is gluten-free, has 120 calories, 3 grams fat (and no saturated or trans fat), as well as boasts 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre. Although the original salted flavor does contain 185 mg of sodium in a serving, the amount of salt used is lower than many savoury foods and contributes to enjoyment.
Try them as a mid-afternoon office snack, send them in your kids’ lunches for school (since they are nut-free) and mix them into salads or trail mix. If you want to try making some at home try my homemade recipe here for Spicy Roasted Chickpeas.
