Curried Lentil Soup In A Jar
A Handmade Holiday Gift Everyone Will Love
Looking for a fantastic handmade holiday gift other than cookies and candy? This curried lentil soup in a jar is a real crowd pleaser. Head to your local bulk store for the ingredients and you can make as many as you like! Because mason jars can be a bit hard to find this year, you can also put this soup in bags. The green and red lentils make this simple soup extra festive!
I’ve given this soup in a jar to family, friends and teachers and everyone loves it. It comes in handy during those weeks after the holidays when no one feels like cooking. Make sure you keep a few for yourself, too!
Recipe and photo courtesy of Definitely Not Martha, who has some great alternate suggestions for mixing up the soup flavours. Makes 4 servings.
What You Need:
3/4 Cup Green Lentils
3/4 Cup Red Lentils
1 Tbsp curry powder
3 Tbsp dried minced onion
1/2 Tsp Garlic powder
1 Tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp chopped dried apple or crushed apple chips
How You Prepare
In a 2 cup (500 mL) mason jar, first pour in the green lentils.
Then add a layer of the seasoning – use a spoon to push the out to the edge of the jar so that you can see them clearly above the lentils.
Add the red lentils above the seasoning.
Stuff as much chopped apple as you can in the top of the jar, then seal!

Do you rinse the lentils before putting them in the jar? If so, how do you get them completely dry before placing them in the jar?
I did not rinse the lentils, no, and there were no issues when we ate the soup.
