Food connects us and brings us back to people and memories by preparing what loved ones once had baked. Our papa’s waffles do just that for us! I remember as a child, I would smell the aroma of waffles and bacon in the early morning before the rest of the family was up. They quickly became a staple in our own homes as we got older, and remind us of our special grandpa every time we make them.
These waffles have simple ingredients that you may already have on hand. Serve with cut-up fruit, a drizzle of maple syrup, and even some whipped cream if you are feeling fancy!
What You Need
- 1 cup white or white-whole wheat flour +2 tbsp
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sour cream
- 3 yolks (save the egg whites)
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 egg whites (beaten to fluff)
How to Make Papa’s Waffles Recipe:
- Prepare your waffle maker by lightly greasing if needed.
- Mix all the dry ingredients together until combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and beat until fully mixed.
- Fold in the fluffed egg whites (careful not to over-mix or waffles will not come out fluffy)
- Using about 3/4 cup of the waffle batter, evenly distribute in the waffle machine.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
